ADVANCED MATERIALS MOVING FORWARD

Nanostructured targets for the generation of intense and stable THz radiation

PROJECT COST:

364 239 $

PRIMA CONTRIBUTION:

145 735 $

PROJECT DETAILS:

The nanostructure of laser-ablation targets used for plasma generation plays a critical role in determining the volume, density, and morphology of the resulting plasma plume. This project aims to investigate how target nanostructuring influences the efficiency of electric field-assisted plasma generation for the production of intense terahertz (THz) radiation pulses. Such THz sources have broad applications in thin-film characterization, polymer research, and biomedical imaging.

This collaborative initiative brings together two complementary research groups with internationally recognized expertise and advanced facilities for nanomaterial synthesis, nanoscale characterization, and THz generation. The project also benefits from the participation of two industrial partners: one specializing in cutting-edge plasma technologies and the other in state-of-the-art time-resolved spectroscopy solutions.

The overarching objective is to develop nanotechnology-enabled strategies for the next generation of high-intensity, stable, and reliable THz sources, addressing the growing demand for advanced THz systems in scientific, industrial, and imaging applications.
