PROJECT DETAILS:
The objective of this project is to develop the knowledge, expertise, and basic technologies required for the design and manufacturing of polyester composite parts reinforced with cellulose-based fibers. To reduce the project cost, the development efforts will initially focus on flax fiber mats. At the end of the project, the developed concepts will be adapted to hemp fiber mats and flax fiber fabrics.
The research activities will focus on the following areas:
- Development of polyester/cellulosic fiber biocomposites.
- Process optimization: infusion or light RTM (Resin Transfer Molding) for 3D prototypes.
- Performance characterization.
- Recycling strategies.
- Evaluation of environmental impacts.
- Cost assessment and market positioning.
