OncoSilicaSpheres – Calibrated and Functionalized Silica Microspheres as Vectors for Oncology Applications

PRIMA Québec is pleased to announce a $464,214 grant for the OncoSilicaSphères project, which aims to validate the ability of silica microspheres to improve safety, reduce doses, and increase the efficacy of three commonly used anticancer drugs.
The project, with a total value of $1.16 million, will be carried out by Professor Jean Legault’s team at UQAC’s LASEVE laboratory, in collaboration with Silicycle Inc. and another industrial partner. Silicycle develops silica gel-based products used for drug purification and laboratory analysis and markets them worldwide to pharmaceutical companies and research institutions. In silica™ microspheres could, in the long term, provide people with cancer with improved treatments and address the shortcomings of other drugs.
