ADVANCED MATERIALS MOVING FORWARD

Green Synthesis of Antimicrobial Silver Nanoparticles

PROJECT COST:

260 868 $

PRIMA CONTRIBUTION:

52 173 $

PROJECT DETAILS:

The goal of this project is to develop antibacterial materials based on silver nanoparticles (Ag NPs) produced using natural extracts. Silver nanoparticles will be synthesized from different types of plant extracts, essential oils, and natural antibacterial compounds.

The study of the interaction mechanisms between silver nanoparticles and biofilms will provide Nanobrand with a fundamental understanding of how these nanoparticles interact with biological systems. This knowledge will help the company design future products with optimized antibacterial activity.

The project will also provide training opportunities for one master’s student, one research associate, and three undergraduate students. It will strengthen Canada’s position in the field of plant-based extracts for applications in the cosmetic and pharmaceutical industries.
