ATLAS: Structural Lightweighting Program for Recreational Vehicles

PRIMA Québec is pleased to announce a $1.07 million grant for the ATLAS project, which aims to develop a structural lightweighting process that promotes the extensive use of lightweight alloys. The $2.75 million project will be led by Prof. Alain Desrochers’ team at the University of Sherbrooke, in collaboration with researchers from Laval University and the Centre de Technologies Avancées. The industrial partners are Bombardier Recreational Products, Rio Tinto Alcan, Verbom, and Shawinigan Aluminium. This project will develop a methodology for modeling, design, and optimization that will enable reductions in weight and cost, as well as improvements in the durability and performance of vehicle chassis. This will reduce greenhouse gas emissions and fuel consumption in vehicles.
