ADVANCED MATERIALS MOVING FORWARD

Development of a circular approach for the recovery of industrial polyurethane residues

PROJECT COST:

150 000 $

PRIMA CONTRIBUTION:

104 000 $

PROJECT DETAILS:

Manufacturing companies involved in the production or management of polyurethane (PU) foam residues in Quebec generate a significant amount of waste; most of which is currently sent to landfill. Environmental concerns and rising disposal costs are encouraging these companies to identify and implement innovative and more sustainable management practices. Six companies have come together to explore new solutions for managing their polyurethane (PU) foam residues.

The project aims to identify innovative and emerging technologies for the mechanical and chemical recycling of PU residues and to assess their technological maturity and potential within the Quebec manufacturing context. These developments will enhance the competitiveness of the six Quebec companies in the market by differentiating them through ESG factors, generating new revenue streams, and reducing landfill costs.
